Lenexa, Kansas - One essential aspect of equine training and competition is the process of good arena conditioning. To simplify this process for equine enthusiasts, Frontier Equipment introduces the new RA Series Arena Rakes. These easy-to-use rakes help equine owners create optimal riding conditions in their indoor or outdoor arenas.

“Our arena rakes create a smooth, consistent footing, for horse and rider to train and compete on,” says Michael Horrell, Frontier sales and marketing manager. “These rakes prepare and condition the footing layer while protecting the valuable subsoil or base of the arena.”

RA Series Arena Rakes are available in two configurations and three working widths. Hitch-mounted models are compatible with 25- to 95-hp tractors and include 94-inch and 117.5-inch working widths. A 79-inch pull-type model is also available and works behind ATVs and UTVs such as the John Deere Gator™.

“Operators can adjust the depth of our rake so it rides on top of the hard arena base. As it's pulled across the arena the front tines remove hoof prints and mix and level the footing layer. Behind these tines is an adjustable, auto-leveling comb. This is followed by a finishing comb that puts down-pressure on the footing layer and firms it up to create a consistent, ideal surface, for horses and riders to train or compete on,” Horrell says.

Each RA Series Arena Rake features a powder-coat finish for long-lasting good looks. One-inch diameter, high-carbon alloy-steel tines extend wear life. These adjustable tines let operators establish a precise footing depth from one to six inches deep. Adjustable gauge tires are included for added stability and control.

In addition to their quality components, Horrell says Frontier Arena Rakes can be fitted with exclusive options that solve very common problems for arena owners or users.

“Over time, some venues develop a “bowl” effect where material from the fill layer collects around the outer edge and builds up to a height greater than the rest of the arena. We offer an exclusive wall/rail blade for our rakes that pull this build up of material away from the wall or fence and then redistributes it to other parts of the arena,” Horrell adds.

Other options include hydraulic height control for the leveling comb (hitch-type models only). This type of height control is ideal for moving footing material in high use cutting or barrel arenas. For owners who struggle with weather-packed arena footing, there are optional ripper teeth available to break up compacted areas.

RA Series Arena Rakes are backed by a one-year limited warranty and fit across a wide range of equine disciplines including rodeo, hunter jumper, dressage, cutting, reigning, Western Pleasure, and English Saddle Seat.
