Washington, DC - A new Farm Foundation report examines the challenges agriculture and the food system face in providing food, fiber and fuel to a growing world over the next 30 years. The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is a sponsor of the report, which was released today at a conference in Washington.

"As the premier representative of corn growers in our country, and as important as we believe it is to be always looking forward, it was key for NCGA to be involved in this project," said NCGA President Bob Dickey. "Our country and the international community face a number of opportunities and challenges in the years ahead, and we believe there are ways we can help address these by producing more corn for food and energy."

Developed with input from a diverse set of agriculture and agribusiness leaders, government agency representatives and academics, the new Farm Foundation report, titled "Agriculture's Strategic Role: Feeding and Fueling a Growing World," identifies six major issues that may impact agriculture's ability to provide feed, fiber and fuel to a growing world.

"U.S. agriculture cannot meet this challenge alone-it cannot single-handedly feed a growing world," the report states. "However, as a principal agricultural producer and a leader in the development of agricultural technology, the United States will play a critical role in determining whether the world is able to meet the challenge of feeding and fueling a growing world over the next three decades."

In addition to NCGA, report sponsors include the Alliance for Abundant Food and Energy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service, the American Farm Bureau Federation, the National Pork Producers Council and the United Egg Producers.
